The main event

Dressing for an event is always exciting and getting that all important outfit right is a must!  If you have a wedding to attend why not invest in a few sheriff hats and headpieces or a simply fabulous dress with matching cropped jacket.

These outfits will not only work for a wedding event but also a gallery opening, a cruise, a ladies day or a race day.  They are a fail safe option as you don’t have to choose anything other than a killer pair of shoes and a bag to go with them!

Dresses tend to come in two sizes, either longer length, short or mid-length.  The event in question usually determines the length of the dress.  For example if you intend to attend a day at the races, you won’t want to work a floor skimming gown as it is most likely to get ruined on the day!  A mid length or shorter creation however will be perfect!

Jewellery and accessories are just as important as an outfit as they tend to be the things that will either pull the whole piece together or over do the look.  It is therefore important you get such items to match the outfit perfectly!

A fitted piece is a great way to enhance assets and curves should be flaunted if you have them!  Peach, coral, greys, greens and creams are all great colours for a daytime event as they will never seem to much or look over the top and such colours will also compliment an assortment of skin tones!

Now you have an outfit sorted, you just need an invitation to an event!

So many dresses

This season isn’t about the skirt, nor is about the tee or the trousers, it’s all about an individual piece!  This piece comes in the shape of the dress, not only is it easy to slip into, the only other things you need to decide on include heels and a cute clutch!

A dress can be dressed up or dressed down, worn in winter and worn in the summer.  Simply add opaques and a cardigan for a cooler day and sandals and shades on a warmer day!

There were also an assortment of magical vintage style gowns on the runway, which looked like they had been found in a secret trunk in the attic.

There were also a few sweet yet glitzy gowns on the catwalk and all were the perfect attire for an evening of cocktails with the girls, not to snazzy but not too subtle either!

Looking for a dress that offers sheer drama, look no further than Posen!  The designer has really pushed the boat out!  This is a dress that the stars will be fighting for on the red carpet!

Calvin Klein are the design house to look to if you wish to create a subtle style that screams sophistication.  whilst the others have gone over the top and embellished, this designer has walked the opposite direction in a low-key fashion!

When you are searching for the perfect cocktail dress, look no further than a Gucci creation in emerald green.  This isn’t just a dress but more like an exotic bird that has wrapped itself around the torso.

Mix and match

Mixing your old clobber with a few new season essentials is a must and also a great way to save a little if you are on a budget!  Don’t think you must hide all of last season’s attire at the back of your wardrobe just solely because it is last season, simply dress it up and update it a little with a few fresh items from the new season.

A trusty pair of black skinnies should be an investment and certainly don’t have to be updated every season, they go with just about every thing and if purchased from a good store will no doubt last you years!

This rule also applies to a good pair of boots, such as a 1970′ style boot for example.  This is one pair of shoes that will again go with everything from cutesy dresses and leggings to jeans and office attire.

A bag is another investment piece and shouldn’t need to be replaced every season if you choose wisely, think of something that will go with absolutely everything rather than a statement piece, choose a nude or black or brown leather in order for it to match most outfits and keep it at a medium size.  This is a piece that you pick up everyday and wear with absolutely everything so don’t go for a statement neon shade!  Keep you over the top pieces to other accessories such as smaller clutches for an evening out, a pair of killer heels and jewellery.

Team highstreet with high end and you will have a look that screams expensive but won’t break the bank.

How to do 60’s style make-up

Thanks to the success of television series like Mad Men, 60’s fashion and style is back with force. The high street shops and Internet retailers, like Joe Browns, are filled with full floral skirts, shift dresses, pastel colours and ultra-feminine styles. Nothing sets off these styles better than the right make-up – sultry, smoky eyes, soft cheeks and full, red lips. Here’s how to do 60’s style make-up for yourself.

1. Good make up always begins with clean skin. Wash your face using your preferred brand of cleanser then pat your skin dry with a towel. Apply moisturiser to any dry patches of skin.

2. 60’s make-up looks best on matte skin. Apply foundation using a sponge or your fingertips, and then gently dust with translucent face powder to create a matte finish.

3. Take a neutral coloured eye shadow and sweep it from your lash line to your brow bone. You can then apply a contrasting shade, like bronze, coffee or rose, below your crease.

4. The 60’s look wouldn’t be complete without some sultry black eyeliner. Slowly ‘feather’ the eyeliner along your lash line using small movement. Steadily make the line thicker as you move outwards. If you are good at applying eyeliner you can use liquid, but pencil is better for those without a steady hand.

5. Curl your lashes or apply false lashes to create volume. Apply black mascara to the lashes, moving the wand in a zigzag pattern. Wait for a few seconds then apply a second coat of mascara.

6. Apply a thin layer of concealer to your lips. Line them using a lip liner that matches your natural lip colour. Using a lip brush, apply a matte red lipstick to the lip area. Blot your lips with a tissue then apply a second coat.

7. Finish with a touch of peach or rose blusher across the cheekbones.

On trend fashions for this season include the likes of hot hues with statement embellishments, body con in block colour is also back and a great idea for an evening on the tiles.

This season colour is being showcased as over the top and in your face bright!  If it is not bright enough to turn heads then it is simply not cool enough!  This is the perfect chance to have fun with hot hues and cause a statement style for the new summer season.

Even balance your new colourful closet with biscuit beiges or alternatively, if you are feeling brave enough, other contrasting hot bold hues!  Try teaming hot pink and orange together or alternatively sorbet lemon and bright blue or another option green grass and vivid bright ocean blue.

A bright tux is a must have this year and it is also the perfect way to dress up an otherwise subtle outfit.  Think hot pink with a black collar or super vivid blue.  Throw over an otherwise simple look and will guarantee to turn heads.

Guys tailoring is another trend back in for girls and is great news for any office girls who like to look on trend both at work and after work, this style will certainly see you straight from the office and into the cocktail bar!  Think mannish tailoring, brogues, satchels and Alexa style bow ties.

It summer and that means one thing, rain or shine your summer clothes must come out to play!  Socialising al fresco is a must and what to wear is the query on everybody’s minds!

The more rain there is the trickier choosing something can become!  So what are the fail-safe rules for outdoor dressing?

When it comes to BBQ’s and beach parties, flats are essential, trying to walk on grass or the sand in heels is a no go.  Balmy summer nights and hot days also require something that is cool and carefree as appose to something heavy and uncomfortable!

Dressing for a quirky summer event requires you to mismatch your look a little.  Toughen up your outfit by teaming a feminine number with a biker girl jacket or heavy biker boots.  The A-list are loving the headwear at present and it’s a great way to protect your head from the sun when it does eventually decide to shine!  Three quarter jackets are a great way to keep the chill off your shoulders yet still keeps the look summery and when it comes to a cute summer ensemble, the key is to look like your not trying!  The fashions of the past are huge this season and really work well for summer!  Take maxi dresses, everyone should own at least one!  Not only do they keep the chill of your legs they look great with sandals and bling jewellery for a more dressier occasion!  Bring on the summer heat wave…
